Goodbye Shea, Hello CitiField Roundtable: Howard Megdal
Interview by Aaron Dorman

"Has it been 45 years already? With Shea Stadium in its final week of regular season baseball and there being no guarantees of postseason play, we figured now was as good a time as any to say our fond farewells to Shea while also saying hello to CitiField. To help us out, we enlisted several writers to answer a quick questionnaire about their favorite memory of Shea and their hopes for the new stadium. We’ll be running them all week, closing with a staff roundtable."

S#!t Hits the Post
Article by Ted Berg

"Do I think this team is appreciably better than a .500 ballclub? No, not as it currently stands. But I don't know that any of the other teams in the division are, either. Howard Megdal of the New York Observer recently compared this team to the 1973 Mets club, which won its division and ended up in the World Series despite an 82-79 record."

Time For Some Change
Article by Ted Berg

"I'm not alone in my thinking. Just this weekend, I got e-mails from
Howard Megdal and John Peterson, smart men who spend a ton of time thinking about the Mets. Howard wrote this:
"Three catchers, three outfielders, zero Pascuccis. This makes me sad.""

Interview: Howard Megdal
Interview by Adam Dorman

"With April coming to a close, we thought now would be the opportune time to look at how things are going. To help us out, we enlisted the help of Howard Megdal, who covers baseball for The New York Observer. Regular Mets Geek readers should also recognize Howard as the poet behind our wonderful Daily Recaps."

Took the 7 Train: April 26, 2008
Article by Jessica Bader

"As I mentioned in the game thread, I made my second trip of the 2008 season out to Shea to see the Mets take on the Braves. While there were certain aspects of the afternoon that I enjoyed a great deal - the Mets winning, spending the game talking baseball with Howard Megdal and his family, a relatively warm April day - I saw and heard many things that troubled me...Bottom of the second. The boos rain down as soon as Delgado’s name is announced, before he even steps into the batter’s box. Howard and his wife wonder aloud what the boo-ers think they are accomplishing..."

Joining The Platoon: Castro Should Rack Up At-Bats Against Lefties
Article by Ted Berg

"But even with Easley in the lineup against portsiders, Delgado and Church present holes that, based on the current roster, cannot be filled. If Castro replaces Schneider, though, the Mets get back some of the offense they're losing at first base and right field. Darth Catcher (hat tip to Howard Megdal for the nickname) mashed lefties in limited at-bats in 2007, and, as with Easley, his .340 career OBP against southpaws makes him a big upgrade over anyone else in the bottom half of the Mets' lineup."
